Have you lost your keys? Quick tips for opening doors

Locksmith Tampa
lost your keys

Regardless of the type of keys lost, there is a way to reopen the door. For convenience, we will focus on general information that will help the average person open doors. The loss of keys will result in a lot more than just being locked out. Getting the door open will be the first step toward resolving the issue. It starts with entering your car, home, or building. Then you can worry about other access problems caused by your lost keys.

Lost house keys

When you’ve lost your keys, going home can be a hassle. When I locked myself away from home, I tried everything to get back home. But for simplicity, I’ll focus on some of the more common and simple ways to reopen your front door. Of course, everyone locks their house differently, so these pointers are intended to help you succeed in the most common scenarios. Call a locksmith if you wish to use professional methods to unlock your locked door. Don’t worry about missing keys until you reach home because these routes are accessible to anyone of any ability level.

1.      Find your spare key.

House locks that have been damaged due to missing keys to your home are more likely to be available. If you do not own a home, your property manager, super, property owner, and so forth probably have a key of their own. If you are the sole owner of your property, think back to a vacation or a business trip you took. If someone was sitting at home, feeding the animals, watering the plants, collecting the mail, or otherwise stopping by, did they ever return the key?

If this isn’t possible for whatever reason, a spare key may have been given to a family member at some point. Why did you leave a spare key somewhere? If you hid the house key well, it should still be where you left it. It is unnecessary to pause like this to open the door when dealing with the fallout of lost keys. If you’ve never given anyone a spare key to your home, move on to the next best method of access.

2.      Alternative entry

There are more ways into a house than through the front door. Lost keys only count if every door opening in your home is closed. Looking for alternative access means walking around the house and checking windows and other perimeter doors.

There are some things that everyone forgets to secure, and a window or a back door is one of them now and then. Take a stroll around the property. Make sure that the doors or windows are in good working order. Remember that neglected windows and doors can stick together, so it’s always wise to try a little refinement. Do not force anything since you risk breaking doors and windows, which will be more expensive because the most expensive services related to lost key locks are repairs or replacements.

3.      Go around the doorway.

It might look like an alternate entrance, but going around the door means you are physically going around the door to reach the lock on the other side. It’s more like some methods of getting back into a locked car. You can slide a tool through a slot and manipulate a rotation on the other side of the door. If there are windows, use them to see how you are doing.

If your front door doesn’t have enough space to hold a tool or uses some type of lock that you can’t manipulate, combine this method with the alternate entry. Walk around the outside of the home to see if there are any easier-to-open doors or windows. Something like a coat hanger might be just the right size to pass through an opening, but if it’s too flexible, you won’t be able to apply the necessary torque to the pinwheels and other actuators.

4.      Potential problems with lost keys

  • When trying to open potentially blocked doors, applying too much force will damage everything you interact with.
  • Finding anything with the proper hardness and size to manipulate your inside turns for locks and the like may be too difficult. Seeking professional methods of getting in alone and untrained increases the risk of incurring unnecessary damage and putting your safety to the test.

Call a professional

Calling a locksmith is a quick and effective way to resolve any issues around lost keys. By opening doors, they can bypass almost any level of protection that keeps you out. Even if you use all the best methods to secure your door, a locksmith excels at security penetration.

When you contact a locksmith Tampa we work with, it may be necessary to use the destructive entrance, but your lock will be more secure than you with a drill. But they’ll also have things like embossed keys and lock picks needed for opening doors, so you’re not likely to need the more severe and expensive method of professional access.
