Every year, the UPSC conducts many recruiting drives. Some are applying for military positions, while others are applying for scientist positions, and so on.
The UPSC recruitment of IAS officers, on the other hand, is what we’re concerned with. Each UPSC recruitment cycle lasts many months and takes place once a year. I don’t imply that UPSC recruitment for IAS officers is limited to IAS officers.
It also serves as a common recruitment method for other officer ranks to fill the yearly UPSC vacant strengths. Officer positions such as IPS, IFS, and IRS.
After all of that, I’m sure you’re aware that the UPSC recruitment being discussed here is the CSE, commonly known as the Civil Services Exams.
Getting hired as an IAS or IPS officer is now a long and arduous procedure, with yearly UPSC recruiting processes spanning more than 9 months.
Each year, millions of students apply for the process, but only a small percentage of those who apply are selected to fill the numerous UPSC vacancies.
UPSC IAS Exam Vacancy
Latest Update: UPSC modified the number highlighting the total vacancies, and added 150 vacancies in the IRMS category. CSE 2022 will now be conducted for a total of 1011 vacancies.
On 2nd February UPSC released the 2022 edition of the UPSC CSE. In the notification, it is highlighted that a total of 861 UPSC vacancy will be filled this year.
Now about the 2021 notification, I have already mentioned in the sections above that 712 vacancies were announced in the UPSC recruitment memo for the various civil services posts in 2021. In general, every annual UPSC recruitment memo announces a vacancy strength of 700 to 900+ for such posts.
However, owing to the number of students that apply annually to compete in the UPSC exams, which nears almost a million, the success percentage in the IAS exams is approx 0.2 %. That is a stringent figure indeed, but you shouldn’t worry.
That’s because a lot of the people that apply in the UPSC CSE recruitment process don’t really show up on the day of the exam. Let me give you an example. In the year 2018, out of the million-plus candidates that had applied for the recruitment process, only about half of them actually showed up to take the prelims exams.
